Ten weeks to go before our challenge. Fundraising is great. So moretraining as we walk 16 miles in the wonderful Cotswolds

We had a fantastic day on Sunday 18/5/14 in the Cotswolds.
The weather was fabulous and after visiting a very quiet Bourton-on-the-water, only because it was 8:45am., we walked up to Westfield farm past a huge clay shoot and on towards Guiting power, then a quick cider at the Black Horse in Naughton.

The Dovecote at Naughton is well worth a few minutes stop.
And inside looks like this

We met several thirsty cows on the route

By the time we got to upper Slaughter we had lunch and Jane cooled her feet in the river.
We moved on after watching several walkers and horse riders admire the tranquility of this beautiful spot.
After walking through lower Slaughter we arrived back at a very, very busy Boughton-on-the-water at 3:45.

We can now proudly announce that amazingly we have reached the £3,000 mark for Cancer Research UK.

Thank you to everyone for their fantastic support and generosity. We are overwhelmed with this total and will keep you informed with the future progress

New target required

Well! it is fantastic to report that we have now shot past our new target of £2,000 and must thank everyone for their tremendous support, it is overwhelming to see how people have supported us, when so many others are asking for money for various charity events.
We are now setting our sights on an incredible total of £3,000 to help find a cure for cancer as soon as possible.
Every penny we raise goes to Cancer Research UK, as we are funding the walk ourselves.
Once again thank you to everyone who has sponsored us so far.

Moor training

We spent Easter on Dartmoor.

We love our trips to Dartmoor and there can be no better c2c preparation for the North York Moors and is great for navigation practice .
Jane admires the Moors from the Tor while taking a rest from the long grass that really tires the legs.

As you venture into the Moors you find many crosses like this one, Nuns Cross with the now abandoned Nuns Cross farm just in the background.  The Nuns cross farm is now used as a camping barn for young explorers. I hope they don't wander to far and into Foxtor Mire!!!

Deeper into the Moors still and we find Ducks Pool Memorial Letterbox

So we stamp the book with our stamp

And then stamp our books with a copy of the stamp, to add to our collection of Letterbox stamps

The Sun Shines at Last

Well, we have been training for our walk in some very wet weather over the last few months and at last the sun has shone.
With the good forecast we decided to try a longer walk today.
So Jane, Kirsty and I set off from the Licky Hills to reach Clent Hills via Waseley Hills. On reaching the Nimmings visitor center at Clent we had the best bacon butties (a trip to Clent is a must and everyone should try these butties at least once), As we had only walked 7.25 miles we decided we could take a longer route back. This route took us via Lower Clent, Holy Village and Chadwick Manor. We did stop at Waseley visitor center for refreshments as  we all needed extra fluids due to the warmer weather.
Well a fantastic day finished with tired legs and the GPS reading a total of 18  miles.
A good work out and let's hope for more of this big bright ball of fire they call SUN.

Super start to fund raising

We have already started to raise money for Cancer Research via sponsorship forms and justgiving.
We have been overwhelmed by the response of our family and friends and can report that we have already reached our original target of £1000 so now hope to raise double that.
You can follow our progress, OR DONATE, with the fund raising on

So here we go the first blog

We wanted to do something worthwhile for Steve’s 50 Birthday and what better than raise money for Cancer. So with my lovely Wife Jane and crazy fun loving Daughter Kirsty we decided to walk the 200 mile + across England from the West Coast to the East coast mainly following A.W.Wainwright’s traditional coast to coast route with a few diversions over the higher peaks, giving a total ascent of 30,232 ft. that’s 4% higher than Everest, and hopefully not too many wrong turns.
