Day 13 Alston to Greenhead

We left Alston with the forecast saying light rain all day but we had next to no rain the whole day

the Pennine Way takes a rather pedantic route through fields farms and countless styles and gates. Some pretty scenery if not dramatic

The most part of this morning we waved back-and-forth towards the South Tyne Trail so there was several viaducts we go under.

The first settlement we made is Slaggyford a tiny hamlet of houses.
We then pass through the Knarsdale Estate

The path joins the maiden way an old Roman Road that very troops but if I’m honest, it was a rather bland overgrown in places nothing like you would expect a Roman Road, once we climb out of Hartley Burn and pass greetings farm we actually hit the quagmire that is Blenkinsopp Common, This is the wettest and boggiest section of the whole Pennine way so far for us. A few sections of duck boarding but could do with lots more
This was then followed by black Hill which is also very squelchy crossing. We reached the A69 and it was a bit of a scurry to cross the road, once we were in Greenhead village

we had to take a right turn and take a 1.5 mile detour on a very overgrown path which was a nightmare, to get to our accommodation which was excellent Blenkinsopp castle Inn. personally today has been my least favourite day although we did have some pretty scenery early on.  we are taking an early night and resting to prepare for the early start and longest day that we have on the whole walk tomorrow. We are quite slow so a 6:30am start at the latest tomorrow. We clocked 18.3 miles today will be a lot more tomorrow.
